KC Lyphout is an Ohio-based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans dance, choreography, musical theatre, creative direction, visual art, and arts education. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, KC began formal training in dance, choreography, acting, and visual arts at Toledo School for the Arts at age twelve, where she first discovered that creating work was just as exciting as performing it. She earned her BFA in Dance from Wright State University in 2021 before continuing her professional training with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company's Second Company through the pandemic. She later joined Mutual Dance Theatre as a resident company artist (2023–2024) and most recently toured internationally as an ensemble dancer with The Thorn.

 

In 2022, KC joined Dayton Dance Initiative as an administrative intern, where she found the rare opportunity to combine artistry with organization. What began as a chance to perform and choreograph quickly expanded into producing, marketing, and creative leadership. Promoted to Company Manager in 2024 and Creative Director in 2026, she now oversees the organization's visual identity, marketing campaigns, and creative strategy while continuing to perform and choreograph. Whether she's developing movement, designing a campaign, or solving a production problem, KC is most energized by work that brings people together and allows multiple disciplines to inform one another.

 

Creating has always been central to KC's artistic practice. Unlike many choreographers who discover composition later in their careers, her choreographic voice developed alongside her technical training from the very beginning. Her first group work earned First Place in Toledo School for the Arts' Student Choreography Showcase, setting the course for a practice rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and theatrical storytelling. At Wright State University, her choreography was selected multiple times for the annual Arts Gala, while her senior thesis, All Good Things, was chosen for the Spring Faculty Dance Concert.

 

Since graduating, KC has continued developing her choreographic voice through Sarasota Contemporary Dance's Rising Choreographer Program, T2 Dance Company, SALT Contemporary Dance's SHAPE Choreography Festival, and Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company's Movers & Makers Intensive, where she received a commissioned work. Her choreography has also been commissioned by Suttle Dance Detroit, Dayton Dance Initiative, TEDx Dayton, Toledo School for the Arts, the University of Dayton, Children's Theatre Workshop Toledo, and Finch Theatrics. Across each project, she is drawn to work that blends physicality, theatricality, and visual composition into stories that linger long after the curtain comes down.

 

Alongside her performance and choreographic career, education remains one of KC's greatest joys. She has taught and mentored more than 150 competitive and recreational dancers throughout southwest Ohio and was a founding faculty member at Pure Studios Performing Arts, where she developed the Modern and Improvisation curriculum. Her students have earned regional and national titles, first-place overall awards, and choreography honors across multiple competition circuits. She has also expanded into musical theatre choreography, adding six full-length productions to her creative repertoire.

 

As her career continues to evolve, KC remains driven by the same questions that first inspired her to make art: How can we connect more deeply? What stories are worth telling? How do movement, design, and collaboration shape the way we experience one another? Themes of mortality, femininity, identity, and community continue to thread through her work, balanced by an appreciation for humor, play, and the occasional beautifully organized spreadsheet. Because making meaningful art takes both imagination and someone who remembers to send the production schedule.
